Hello everyone! Throughout this trip we have visited so many places in Yunnan that have been interesting to me. Instead of doing a small blog about one of the places we went, I am going to do a blog describing some of the places that we have visited describing them with pictures I have taken at the locations.
On the first couple of day I arrived we visited one of the cooks house, the monastery, and the museum inside of the CERS site. The cooks house was absolutely beautiful. We spent majority of the time within her home inside of the living room. There was not that much furniture within the living room but the room did not have that much furniture except for a couple of benches by the stove. They talked about how the most respected, which is mostly the elderly men get to sit on those benches but majority of people have to sit on the floor.
The monastery was such a great experience. The monastery was one of the most beautiful images I have had in my brain from this trip. There were so many colors because of the prayer flags that were hanging up, which made it stand out so much. One of the pictures is a local worker selling us prayer flags before we went inside the monastery. Then there is a picture of what looks like a bunch of necklaces but to the local people these are offerings to bring good wealth and luck to their families.
We also visited the Botanical Garden. This garden was full of flowers and plants that were filled over Yunnan. While there we learned about the rich biodiversity that was in the area. The garden had so much history to talk about. There were also graduate students there that we got to observe for a little bit while they studied plants for projects. Here is one of the flowers that I took a picture of while at the garden.
The nunnery was another location we visited. It was two hours away but worth the drive. We learned more about the religion here in Yunnan, especially the different types of Buddha and what they mean to the culture. The pictures shown are one of the dorms for the nuns to stay in at the nunnery and then some of us posing with a beautiful view in the background!
Another awesome place that we visited was Old town. There were many shops that we visited to get souvenirs from. We also went to a great western style restaurant called Compassed. The food at the restaurant was so good that we ordered so much we couldn’t eat anymore. Here are some pictures of me and some of the other ACE members enjoying town and eating at Compass.
