This is the meconopsis horridula or the famous blue poppy found here in Shangri-La. Dr. Bill, the CERS center’s guru for all things related to plants and wildlife, has exposed us quite a bit to the different types of flowers in this unique area. He said that this one can only be found above 13,000ft and botanists from all over China come to Shangri-La in search of this flower.

Riley taking in the view as we travel up to Mt. Shika via cable car. The city of Shangri-La as well as the Napahai wetlands are visible from the 14,763ft summit. We enjoyed waving to people in the adjacent cars traveling down from the mountain.
On the way down from Mt. Shika, we stopped at a farm where we found roaming yaks and goats and beautiful views of the mountain above. Here we decided to try their traditional yak cheese, yak yogurt, and my personal favorite...a flavorful yak meat kabob.
